  8. Gorbachev's health is of more than morbid interest to U.S.
  9. strategists. Analysts at the C.I.A. and State Department are
  10. now convinced he's a mild diabetic. They believe he developed
  11. the disease in his 40s and controls his blood sugar by taking
  12. tablets rather than insulin injections. He has been advised to
  13. watch what he eats and to avoid liquor, which may account for
  14. his strong dislike of vodka -- and his campaign to stop his
  15. countrymen from knocking back so much of it.
